FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I have been in an accident?

1.Stop your vehicle at or near the crash site. If your vehicle can be moved, get it off the road so it doesn’t block traffic or cause another accident. Turn off your ignition.
2.Check if anyone is injured; call the police (911).
3.Get names of all the people involved in the accident, and any witnesses.
4.Exchange Insurance company, policy number, and Drivers License information, Name, Address, Drivers License number, vehicle license plate, make, model, and year of vehicle.
5..Record any and all damages to the vehicles involved or take photos of the other party’s vehicle. Do not discuss “fault” or apologize for the accident.
6.Contact Custom World Auto Body and we will assist you with reporting your claim.

What are OEM, Aftermarket, and Recycled Parts?

OEM - (Original Equipment Manufactured) by your vehicle’s factory supplier.
Aftermarket - Copied from the original factory part and manufactured by a 3rd party supplier. Mainly manufactured overseas and imported into the US.
Recycled Part - An original factory part taken off of a vehicle that has been retired from service.

Should I turn the loss into my insurance company or pay for it out of pocket?

That is really a question only you can answer based on a number of personal and financial factors. An initial drive-in estimate is typically written as a "visual only estimate". A majority of the time, the price to repair a car goes up (sometimes increasing dramatically) once it is disassembled and closely inspected. This is due to many very expensive components are situated inside the exterior parts of vehicles and cannot be seen visually unless a vehicle has been taken apart, which is not feasible for a drive-in estimate. Your insurance company has the expertise and is trained to deal with additional damage and part price increases, much better than most consumers. If you have any question about handling the claim yourself or turning it into your insurance company, you should probably let the experts handle it for you, but again that is your choice.

What is a Supplement?

A supplement is typically an estimate for hidden or additional damage, not discovered during the initial visible estimate. Supplements and hidden damage are a normal occurrence because today’s vehicles are designed to crush from the “outside-in” in order to protect the occupants. If a shop finds additional damage, it writes a supplement and notifies the insurance company or customer for approval to continue with repairs.

How a vehicle is determined a “total loss”?

When your insurance company determines the repair costs will exceed your vehicle’s value, this is known as an “economic total loss”. At this point, your insurance company will contact you to settle your claim. You also have the right to keep your vehicle if you'd like to retain it.

What if the estimate I got from the insurance company is different from yours?

Differences in repair estimates are common. A lower estimate may not have included all necessary work. If you are not sure why one estimate is different from another you’ve received please ask and we will be happy to go over it with you.

Can you match the factory paint color?

We guarantee that the factory color will be matched, as long as all painting is completed in accordance with factory suggested procedures. We use the finest automotive paints and processes available. If your vehicle has had prior paint work or mismatched paint, additional charges may apply for us to be able to match the existing finish.

How can I get a rental car set up for the day I drop off my car?

We work closely with Enterprise Rent a Car. When you arrive at one of our shops, we will contact Enterprise and they will pick you up and take care of your rental vehicle. We also work with other rental agencies if you or your insurance company prefers one.

Is there a warranty for the repairs to my car?

All our repairs are backed by a LIFETIME written warranty, given to you at the completion of the repair.
